Sometimes the simplest actions can improve your outlook as the season’s change. In addition, your environment becomes fresh and ready for the days ahead. My favorite task is changing our Winter bedding of darker velvet and linens to our Spring/Summer linens of organic cotton and replacing our duvet cover with our West Elm white pinstripe cotton. Even though we wash everything before we store it away in plastic containers we rewash it all before putting it on our bed. I then bring out the old-fashioned iron and do some pressing to get it all just right. The first night back in our bed is like sleeping on a cloud.

Let me share some other seasonal Spring rituals you may already do or are open to considering this year. I would love to know what you do that energizes you. Please share in the comments.

Saves space and keeps dust out.

Garment Covers protect from dust.
  1. Switching the Bedding. Putting the winter linens in vacuum-sealed space bags.
  2. Cleaning the windows inside and out. Easier when both of us do this task.
  3. Power wash the patio and sidewalk.
  4. Switch out shoes and coats by rotating to the back of the closets. Due to space, I will put coats into jumbo vacuum-sealed space bags.
  5. Rotate heavier winter clothes to the rear of the closet. I also use garment covers over the shoulders to avoid dust. While I do this I evaluate each item by the number of times I wore it, does it still makes me happy and fits the way I want it to. If not I put in a donation tote or a sell it totes. I consider it a mini-seasonal Closet Detox.
  6. Spring cleaning Inside: Vacuum the drapes, wipe the baseboards, wipe inside the cabinets and rearrange.
  7. On the nicest Spring day, we tackle the garage. Rearranging, identifying what to donate, check out our hoses, and bring all the planters and pots out to hose them down as we prepare to fill with new plants.
  8. Another favorite ritual of mine is putting out the chair cushions, laying out the furniture, and identifying where I want the pots. I lay down the outdoor rugs and sweep everything down for many outside meals to be enjoyed.
  9. As for outdoor pots I use the ceramic pots inside all Winter as vases adding fresh flowers weekly and tucking a few into the bookcase. My pots happen to be sunny yellow and are my accent color inside as well. But now I bring them outside and plant the herbs, and flowers outside to bring happiness all Summer. So I enjoy a certain handful of pots all year.
  10. I clean out the birdbath and let the landscapers do the edging and mulching.
